  1. Just wanted to drop you guys a letter of condolence over the failure of this episode to live up to the highs of the previous one. It would have been impossible to top Tim Wallace appearing on the second episode of a podcast covering the second issue of Secret Origins for a second time. Merely looking at the same issue of a comic covered on another podcast every member of this show’s audience just gobbled up five months ago on the Fire & Water Mother Feed Nipple couldn’t pack the same punch of audacious redundancy. I know you guys have already put a lot of work into doing a deep dive on Blue Beetle’s role in Legends, and even managed to secure Michael Bailey as a “special guest” (via cribbed excerpts from fourteen hours of “found audio”), but perhaps consider plan BB, instead? I appreciate you scamps’ Kaufmanesque subversion of listener expectations, though!

    • Frank,

They can’t all be winners. To everyone at least. I knew going into this episode that it was a slight mis-step and I hope it doesn’t put you off the entire series. But it really was my introduction to the character and I felt it was important to get my own thoughts across for the sake of the show. Not everyone who listens to Beetlemania has suckled at the teat of Rob and Shag (though I recognize that most have).

With our “origins” out of the way, we’ll be covering never-reviewed-by- Fire-and-Water issues of Blue Beetle from this point forward. Tim is covering a Charlton Dan Garrett book in episode 3, and I’ll be doing the same in episode 5 (if all goes according to plan).

You said something that confused me though. Securing Michael Bailey as a special guest? Via cribbed excerpts? Can you elaborate on that? I honestly have no idea what you are referencing. Outside of being Facebook friends, I have personally had no real interaction with Mr. Bailey. Either to have him on a podcast or to “borrow” something he’s said or written.

Thank you for your comments. Even if they are mean, at least you took the time to listen and interact with us. You’re like the nicest internet troll I know!

      Always your fan and friend,
