FKAjason and Roy “Charlemagne” Cleary met in the early 1980s in their hometown in middle Georgia. They got on like a house on fire and launched themselves into several creative projects. They wrote Doctor Who fan-fiction, original sci-fi short stories, and even comic books. Throughout their lives, making crappy movies and even starting a rock band, one constant remained: comics (although they never made a “super-hero” movie, their band had several songs about super-heroes).
In 2011, Roy came to Jay with a crazy idea: podcasting. Their first show aimlessly meandered through geek culture and random things that they liked talking about. It was Jay who noticed that – even though few people listened to their show – the most popular episodes were those in which they talked about comics. The show ended, but Jay never forgot that interesting little nugget of knowledge.
On December 22, 2015, they debuted their podcast, Silver & Gold. The podcast is a review show covering the DC Comics characters Booster Gold and Captain Atom. The model for the show was a blatant rip-off of Rob Kelly and the Irredeemable Shag’s Firestorm and Aquaman show, the Fire and Water Podcast.
Their plan is to cover each issue of Booster Gold (vol 1), which ran for 25 issues from 1986 to 1988, each issue of Captain Atom (vol 1, DC), which ran for 57 issues from 1987 to 1991 and included two annuals. It is their goal to also cover Booster and Cap’s followup series as well as their various appearances in other DC Comics books.
On February 4, 2016, FKAjason and his son Vance began to review the old Charlton Comics featuring Captain Atom in their special “Throwback Thursday” episodes. Their plan is to cover all appearances of Captain Atom before his purchase by DC Comics. The show eventually became it’s own entity, Charlton Comics Throwback.
On May 11, 2016, Roy began his spin-off series DC v Marvel. In this podcast he pits a randomly selected DC Comics character against a randomly selected Marvel Comics character. Each episode features a guest analyst.
Another show was added to the growing SNGOD family on September 17, 2016. Jay’s solo mini-series Wild Pod: A Wild Dog Podcast covers all appearances of the DC Comics character Wild Dog. From his original mini-series to his current appearances in the Young Animal imprint book Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye.
On January 11, 2017, FKAjason and Tim Wallace (of kordindustries.blogspot.com) unveiled the Blue Beetle podcast Beetlemania! It is their goal to cover the entire history of the character, from 1939 to today. Tim is a longtime fan of Blue Beetle who has guested on various other podcasts talking about the character. Jay thought it was a damn shame Tim didn’t have a Blue Beetle podcast of his own and swiftly rectified the oversight.
